This bicycle route takes you from the center of Utrecht to two beautiful estates: Amelisweerd in Bunnik and Nieuw Wulven in Houten. Both have a noble history.
The name Amelisweerd likely originated from a mention of the knight Amelis miles de Insula, Latin for 'Amelis from the Weerd.' Knight Amelis had a valuable piece of land along the Kromme Rijn on loan from the provost of Oudmunster in Utrecht, a record dating back to 1224. When the knight passed away, his sons divided the estate into three parts. Two parts are now known as Oud-Amelisweerd, and the other part became the present-day Nieuw-Amelisweerd.
Explore these beautiful historical estates by bike with this route, making for a relaxing day of cycling around Utrecht!
